Ooberman gig - Amersham Arms (with others...)

Post by Bob »

Anyone going? :D

http://www.last.fm/event/1898465

Tickets from: http://www.wegottickets.com/event/113869 - Only a fiver.
In celebration of the life and antics of our dear friend Edd, we have collected together his favourite bands and friends in a special one-off performance!

Topping the bill are 2 of his most beloved bands The Electric Soft Parade and Ooberman!

The Electric Soft Parade (may just be Tom White but possibility of Alex too) will make a rare appearance in one of their only performances of the last 2 years!

Ooberman appearing anywhere is even rarer. The band officially broke up, but we have managed to get them to perform a one-off gig as they were one of the bands that Edd held closest.

Edd himself appeared in a number of bands, including Headshrinker, The Hidden Messages, Apple Eyes and A Little Orchestra; all of whom are playing this night along with Wolventrix, The Vamp and Burgi.

There will be surprise guests, Accidental Djs, Cake, Badges and ducks for all!

All proceeds will go to charity.

Very sad news about Edd, I remember him from back in the day.

I can't make the gig sadly - have fun folks who are going.

Top gig. Dan & Sophia on smashing form.

Encore at the end of the set perhaps not, but The Oob encouraged an after hours drinking and singing session which was totally off the cuff and in which all the bands which had played during the evening got involved in. I think we had about 64 choroses of 'Shorley Wall.'

Big thanks to D & S for singing Roll Me In Cotton to my wife & I after the gig (twas our 1st dance wedding song).

Without a shadow of any doubt, the best gig I've ever been too. Could not have been any better. Marvelous.

Guys, if you're reading this, thanks ever so much- hope that New Cross taxi didn't take the piss on the way back.

See you back in London soon....

EDIT - Forgot to mention....welcome to the Physics Disco.....!! got a little go and the end- we all had to rely on iPhone for lyrics, mind! Great fun.

Had to catch a train after the first encore of Shorley Wall - but that was an amazing gig!

In all, I think I've seen Ooberman live about three or four times in the past and I can honestly say that was one of the best.

The size of the audience was incredible and they clearly all loved it! The band got the kind of reception they always deserved in the late 1990s/ earls 2000s (but rarely got).

I think that over the past few years, a lot of people have picked up on their music who never knew it at the time, thanks to the internet. So I'm sure there were a lot of people there at their first ever Ooberman gig - and you could tell they loved it!

Just goes to show that we need some Magic Theatre gigs, Dan and Soph can certainly hold an audience by themselves just as well as all the Oobs ever did!

Ps. could the two girls with iphones at the front who were filming please post their footage on YouTube - my phone had died :(

Hey Wayne, one of those girls was my wife - we'll get the footage up soon as. Though out iphone died half way through too :( I got the rest on my crappy old mobile - I'll stick up what we've got anyway.

FANTASTIC gig by the way - we also had to leave after ESP finished their main set, but sounds like you guys had a blast afterwards :)

Danny and Sophia, MASSIVE thank you for the gig, I echo Wayne, it was masterful, and proves the TMT gigs would be very special. Last night was my first Ooberman gig after being a fan since 2000. Thanks.

My wife was also recording the set on t'iPhone, however we were both quite pissed so some of it is interupted by bickering, the other half by dropping the phone on the floor.

Can offer you this though, which is a full audio of the gig;

Enjoy Oobs.

Gutted I missed this gig, but I'm over in New Zealand for a year, so it was a tad too far to travel for a gig, alas. I'd love more one-off Oob gigs though (do they still count as one-off if they happen more than once?) - full band ones would be ace, but Magic Theatre ones would be great too.

Only if I'm in the country at the time though! :P

Came across the handwritten Ooberman set list from this whilst emptying the spare room last week (nipper number two on the way). Is now sat proudly in a frame in our bedroom.

Dan very kindly gave it to us before disappearing into a taxi back to the hotel.

Great night.

Was just wandering past (managed to get to the O's to the re-rips of my CD collection :P ) and thought I'd let you know someone uploaded Dan & Sophia's set at the Amersham Arms on YouTube with what appears to be direct recording:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3Iyjq6D0AA

and a bit of the Aftershow, where they performed 'Roll Me In Cotton':

You can also check the uploader's videos for other sets from the night. :)
